City Champs!!
October 1, 2017
Hello HXC Community,
What a great final week we completed as a team! Thanks to all of you who came out for our Chipotle fundraiser last Monday! We are so lucky to have such a great support system for our team! The weather finally dropped this week, and I was excited to see some fast times from our runners! First up in a busy week was Conference. Conference is scored over every grade and gender, so once again, every runner plays a huge role. Our numbers are down a little this year, so we knew it was going to be close. However, everyone stepped up, and we were able to secure our 3rd straight conference title by just 1 point! All-Conference runners include: 6th grade girls- Olivia 1st place (12:36) and Sara 8th place (14:20). 6th grade boys- James 13th place (13:26). 7th grade girls- Tori 2nd place (12:58), Kenzy 3rd place (13:15), Lizzy 4th place (13:33), Gracie 10th place (14:16), and Amanda 15th place (14:48). 7th grade boys- Aryan 6th place (12:34), Carter 12th place (13:07), and Quinn 14th place (13:20). 8th grade girls- Megan 1st place (12:11), Jenna 2nd place (12:37), Devon 3rd place (12:39), Kate 4th place (12:43), Karina 7th place (13:08), and Ella 8th place (13:13). 8th grade boys- Nate 2nd place (11:15), Ryan 3rd place (11:19), Jay 4th place (11:31), Aiden 6th place (11:49), Brandon 7th place (12:02), Ty 8th place (12:02), Brock 9th place (12:05), Andy 10th place (12:20), Nate 13th place (12:33), and Eli 15th place (12:58)
Saturday was the City Meet! As I mentioned last week, this is a meet we take much pride in. Everyone who competes at the middle school level in Aurora wants to win a City title! Girls’ varsity was up first, and they dominated the field in scoring the first ever perfect score of 15 at the City Meet! Medal winners included Megan 1st place (11:30), Olivia 2nd place (11:54), Devon 3rd place (11:55), Kate 4th place (11:59), Jenna 5th place (12:00), Tori 7th place (12:03), and Ella 8th place (12:05). Boys’ varsity followed and were just as dominate, scoring 24 pts in route to winning the title! Medal winners were Nate 2nd place (10:37), Ryan 3rd place (10:42), Jay 4th place (10:50), Aiden 7th place (11:13), Brandon 8th place (11:15), and Ty 9th place (11:20). The girls’ open race was next, and our girls were on fire! We scored a 16, which is only one point away from perfect! Medal winners were Kenzy 1st place (12:26), Karina 2nd place (12:44), Lizze 3rd place (12:52), Gracie 4th place (13:09), Sara 6th place (13:27), Katelyn 7th place (13:32), and Amanda 9th place (13:46).The boys’ open closed the meet with HXC securing 7 of the top 10 places, scoring an 18! Medal winners were Nate 1st place (11:46), Aryan 2nd place (11:49), Rocco 4th place (12:04), Eli 5th place (12:06), Carter 6th place (12:18), Quinn 9th place (12:27), and Zach 10th place (12:29)
As fantastic as the day was, it was a little bittersweet as I knew it was the last race for some of our 8th graders. I’d like to acknowledge them, and let them know how grateful I am for all that they have done for the program the last few years. You are an elite class, and we are going to miss you!
David Simpson- David’s 6th grade time trial was a 16:03 and finished his career with a PR of 12:59. He was also a captain and three year veteran. One thing I’ll always remember about David is he always made a point to thank me after each practice. Although this was completely unnecessary, I always appreciated the gesture. David is a high character kid who we will miss.
Justin Kish- Kisher’s 6th grad time trial was 19:28, and he finished his career with a PR of 13:49. He was also a captain and three year veteran. Kisher’s work ethic will take him far! He worked hard at every practice and was a great example to other runners.
Zach Noe- Zach’s 6th grade time trail was 16:43, and he finished his career with a PR of 12:54. Zach was a 3 year member of the team, who was a captain. Zach was a grinder who improved each time out. He’s extremely well rounded and involved in many school activities. He’s extremely talented in theater and knows a card trick or two!
Eli Scull- Eli’s 6th grade time trial was 16:22, and he finished his career with a PR of 12:06. He was a captain and three year member of the team. Eli was an extremely dedicated athlete who turned himself into a, All-Conference runner! He’s got a huge heart and runs with guts! I’m looking forward to seeing how much Eli will improve in high school!
Rocco Robbins- Rocco joined the team in 7th grade and his first time trial was 15:42. He finished with a PR of 12:04. Rocco was 3rd in the City Open this year and just missed the State Team. Hopefully, he continues to run in high school as he is just starting to figure this sport out.
Will Morrison- Will’s 6th grade time trial was a 19:19 and he finished his career with a PR of 14:17. Will “the thrill” had a kick of legends! You didn’t want to be one on one with Will down the final 100 meters of a race! Will was always working hard and just a real nice kid! We’re going to miss you, Will!
Mario Ayala- Marios 6th grade time trial was a 23:07 and he finished his career with a PR of 12:41. He was a captain and three year member of the team. He improved almost a 100% over his career! Mario had no quit in him and turned himself into a great runner! Mario will always be known for his work ethic and commitment to the team.
Zach Curtis- Zach’s 6th grade time trail was a 17:00, and he finished his career with a PR of 12:19. Zach was a solid runner who also excels at soccer. He often spilt time between the two, which made his times that much more impressive! He’s a 3 year veteran of HXC and will be missed.
Trinity Bali- Trinity is just in her 2nd year of XC. Her first time trial was a 30:00, and she finished her career with a PR of 15:05. Trinity worked herself into being named a captain and led by example! I never heard her complain one time, and she was all about the team! She also had the best haircut on the team. J Hopefully, she continues on with the sport as I know she has a passion for it!
Katelyn Dineen- Katelyn was also just in her 2nd year of XC. Her first time trial was a 17:28, and she finished her career with a PR of 13:22. Katelyn just missed the state team and was dropping time like crazy at the end of the year. She has a ton to potential and with only two years of competitive running, her best years still lie ahead!
Kailey Lundberg- Kailey is also a three year veteran and captain. Coming off a break out track season, she was figuring to not only be in the hunt for the state team but also a varsity spot. Unfortunately, her season was cut short due to a broken arm and surgery; the pounding from our speed days would bring immense pain. Instead of being bitter, Kailey continues to come to practice and meets! She is the ultimate team player who is “always we, never me.”
Moving into next week, I want to congratulate the members of our 2017 State Series Team: The boy’s will be represented by Ryan Watts, Aiden Hobson, Jay Jenkins, Nate Hodge, Brock Beatus, Ty Rogers, Brandon Ngsong, Andy Sporny, Nate Lindstrom, and Aryan Marwaha. The girl’s state team will comprise of Megan Sporny, Devon Tomas, Jenna Stuck, Ella Henry, Kate Ochsenschlager, Olivia Kunio, Tori Lopez, Karina Juarez, Kenzy Hobson, and Lizzie Gould. Sectionals will be hosted by Jane Adams Middle School in Bolingbrook, Il. The address is Central Park, 201 Recreation Drive, Bolingbrook, IL 60440. Girls Varsity will race at 9:00 and Boys at 9:25. All athletes will need to arrive at Herget at 7:00 on Saturday. In the event we qualify for state, I have already reserved a block of rooms at the Doubletree Hotel in Bloomington, Il. We have 14 rooms booked. The kids would stay two per room. We also would have district 129 employees Amy Tomas (Devon’s mom) and Kelly Henry (Ella’s mom) staying on the same block as our official female chaperones. Coach Butcher and myself would have the other two rooms. All athletes’ rooms are paid for by the district, and they would also receive a per diem for food. Last time I checked, the hotel was completely booked, but you may want to keep checking. In the event we qualify, I will have an official itinerary out next week. As always thanks for all the support! #runhxc #beelite
