Herget Middle School Cross Country

City Reccap

October 3, 2026

Hello HXC Community,

What a way to wrap up our regular season at the City Meet! With some pretty wild course conditions and course alterations, our athletes took everything in stride and performed exceptionally well!

The day kicked off with our team picture around Megan’s Bench. Inscribed on Megan’s Bench is the phrase, “You do your best for me, and I’ll do my best for you.”

Cross country is unique in that it is a team sport, but when the gun goes off, you are on your own. There are no trick plays, timeouts, or substitutions. You can only do your best for your teammates and trust that they will do their best for you. The quote was a great foreshadowing of the day to come!

GIRLS VARSITY

With no superstars on the team, our strength is in the pack. Saturday was a perfect example of that, with our 1–5 split at just 32 seconds and all of our scoring girls finishing in the top 15. That consistency helped us cruise to a City Title with 33 points!

Medal winners were:

  • Charlotte G. – 4th place (12:55)
  • Elise R. – 7th place (13:08)
  • Mallory B. – 10th place (13:24)

Rounding out our team score was:

  • Mia C. – 12th place (13:28)
  • Danielle A. – 14th place (13:32)
  • Simone W. – 15th place (13:42)

BOYS VARSITY

Heading into the meet, we knew it was going to be tough to trophy. Washington had just beaten us the week before, defending champion Granger was in the field, and Bednarcik is always tough.

Our boys stepped up to the challenge by placing all of our runners in the top 30 and earning a second-place trophy with 49 points! We were just 8 points off the title and are starting to peak at the right time!

Medal winners were:

  • Evan B. – 5th place (11:01)
  • Wyatt J. – 6th place (11:02)
  • Miles W. – 10th place (11:20)

Other finishers were:

  • Owen L. – 12th place (11:48)
  • Seth M. – 16th place (12:04)
  • Sabino G. – 26th place (12:43)
  • Luke S. – 29th place (12:46)

GIRLS OPEN

Our Open girls put on perhaps the most dominant performance of the day by placing six girls in the top 10!

Medal winners were:

  • Amelie R. – 1st place (14:57)
  • Victoria G. – 4th place (15:41)
  • Gia R. – 5th place (15:43)
  • Ariyah C. – 6th place (15:45)
  • Savannah T. – 8th place (15:47)
  • Melanie V. – 10th place (16:00)

Rounding out the Open team was:

  • Josselin B. – 19th place (16:00)
  • Valentina S. – 34th place (19:25)
  • Amira A. – 54th place (24:20)

BOYS OPEN

Finishing up a great day was our boys Open team.

Christian D. – 10th place (13:41) – brought home a medal!

Behind him were:

  • John M. – 20th place (14:31)
  • Zayn B. – 26th place (15:14)
  • Isac G. – 31st place (15:34)
  • Yasiel P. – 37th place (16:01)
  • Moses N. – 48th place (18:40)

Today was a great day, but it was also a little bittersweet as it marks the end of our regular season. Going forward, only our varsity athletes will be competing, but all athletes are welcome to continue joining us at practice, even if they just want to come for a day or two.

Please remember to wash and return your jersey to Coach Stancati this week.

I’ve also attached the sectional information for those continuing on.

Thanks to everyone for the incredible support and for helping make this such a memorable day! It has been an amazing regular season, and we’re excited to see what our varsity athletes can accomplish next!
