What a Week!

Hello HXC Community,

Coming off such a successful weekend at Tiger Trails the goal was to keep the momentum going through Conference and City. First up was Conference; scoring for conference is figured over all grades and genders. The team with the most team depth is usually in the best position to win, and depth is our strength! We had 26 all-conference athletes to secure our second straight conference title! All conference athletes for 6^th grader were Lizzy 2^nd (13:52), Makenzy 3^rd (13:55), Gracie 10^th (14:57), Tori 12^th (14:58), and Amanda 13^th (15:00). Boys were Victor 1^st (12:45), and Ben 13^th (13:57). 7^th grade all-conference athletes were Megan 1^st (12:48), Devon 2^nd (13:21), Ella 4^th (13:33), Jenna 7^th (13:36), Kate 9^th (13:42), Karina 13^th (14:01), and Kailey 14^th (14:07). Boys were Ryan 2^nd (12:18), Aiden 3^rd (12:32), Brandon 4^th (12:39), Jay 5^th (12:42), Nate 6^th (12:49), Brock 8^th (13:03), and Andy 15^th (13:44). 8^th grade honors went to Lauren 1^st (12:39), LoLo 3^rd (13:12), Emily 4^th (13:26), Emelin 10^th (14:05), and Cristina 15^th (15:10).

Next up was the big one, the City of Lights. We take great pride in this meet and always have it circled on our calendar. Our girls have won this 6 out of the last seven years, and our boys have finished 2^nd-6 out of the last seven years to our Aurora rival, The Bednarcik Bulldogs. The girls came out and overwhelmed the field to secure our 3^rd straight City Title. We were led by Lauren 1^st (11:50), Megan 2^nd (11:54 ), Kate 5^th (12:37 ), Devon 7^th (12:38), Jenna 9^th, LoLo 11^th (12:51), and Ella 20^th (13:25). Before the boys race, we talked about a low 1-5 split and to come in as “one punch”. Our 1-5 split was 22 seconds with every boy sub 12:00 for the first time all season to secure our first city title since 2014 in the boy’s varsity! We were led by Ryan 5^th (11:35), Brandon 8^th (11:41), Nate 10^th (11:47), Jay 12^th (11:56), Aiden 13^th (11:57), Victor 20^th (12:12), and Brock 22^nd (12:16).

After the varsity races, the rain came, and now we had a proper cross country meet! The open runners again showed that our team depth is our strength, and the long grey line was well represented on the medal stand! Both boys and girls put up perfect scores of 15! Girls were led by Emily 1^st (12:59), Kailey 2^nd (13:04), Karina 3^rd (13:07), Makenzy 4^th (13:12), Lizzy 5^th (13:21), Gracie 6^th (13:28), Tori 7^th (13:47), Emelin 9^th (13:59), and Cristina 10^th (14:02). Boys who medaled were Tyler 1^st (12:24), Brandon W. 2^nd (12:29), Vince 3^rd (12:33), Andy 4^th (12:50), Ben 6^th (12:54), Nate 7^th (12:55), Jake 9^th (12:57), and Eli 10^th (13:08).

This week we will practice on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. There will also be no bus to the Stampede, and athletes will need to arrive at the Stuart Sports Complex at 7:00 for our co-ed race at 8:00.

Any incoming 8^th grader interested in being a captain for the 2017 can fill out our new captain application which I will be handing out tomorrwo. Talent is not a prerequisite for being chosen. Captains will be chosen on their application, behavior shown during our current season, and cross country experience. All captains will be chosen on a tentative basis with final captains being named during the first week of our 2017 season. As always, thanks for the support! #runhxc #beelite
