Herget Middle School Cross Country

What a Week!

October 2, 2016

Hello HXC Community,

Coming off such a successful weekend at Tiger Trails the goal was to keep the momentum going through Conference and City.  First up was Conference; scoring for conference is figured over all grades and genders.  The team with the most team depth is usually in the best position to win, and depth is our strength!  We had 26 all-conference athletes to secure our second straight conference title!  All conference athletes for 6th grader were Lizzy 2nd (13:52), Makenzy 3rd (13:55), Gracie 10th (14:57), Tori 12th (14:58), and Amanda 13th (15:00). Boys were Victor 1st (12:45), and Ben 13th (13:57). 7th grade all-conference athletes were Megan 1st (12:48), Devon 2nd (13:21), Ella 4th (13:33), Jenna 7th (13:36), Kate 9th (13:42), Karina 13th (14:01), and Kailey 14th (14:07).  Boys were Ryan 2nd (12:18), Aiden 3rd (12:32), Brandon 4th (12:39), Jay 5th (12:42), Nate 6th (12:49), Brock 8th (13:03), and Andy 15th (13:44).  8th grade honors went to Lauren 1st (12:39), LoLo 3rd (13:12), Emily 4th (13:26), Emelin 10th (14:05), and Cristina 15th (15:10).

Next up was the big one, the City of Lights.  We take great pride in this meet and always have it circled on our calendar.  Our girls have won this 6 out of the last seven years, and our boys have finished 2nd-6 out of the last seven years to our Aurora rival, The Bednarcik Bulldogs.  The girls came out and overwhelmed the field to secure our 3rd straight City Title.  We were led by Lauren 1st (11:50), Megan 2nd (11:54 ), Kate 5th (12:37 ), Devon 7th (12:38), Jenna 9th, LoLo 11th (12:51), and Ella 20th (13:25).  Before the boys race, we talked about a low 1-5 split and to come in as “one punch”.  Our 1-5 split was 22 seconds with every boy sub 12:00 for the first time all season to secure our first city title since 2014 in the boy’s varsity!  We were led by Ryan 5th (11:35), Brandon 8th (11:41), Nate 10th (11:47), Jay 12th (11:56), Aiden 13th (11:57), Victor 20th (12:12), and Brock 22nd (12:16).

After the varsity races, the rain came, and now we had a proper cross country meet!  The open runners again showed that our team depth is our strength, and the long grey line was well represented on the medal stand!  Both boys and girls put up perfect scores of 15!  Girls were led by Emily 1st (12:59), Kailey 2nd (13:04), Karina 3rd (13:07), Makenzy 4th (13:12), Lizzy 5th (13:21), Gracie 6th (13:28), Tori 7th (13:47), Emelin 9th (13:59), and Cristina 10th (14:02).  Boys who medaled were Tyler 1st (12:24), Brandon W. 2nd (12:29), Vince 3rd (12:33), Andy 4th (12:50), Ben 6th (12:54), Nate 7th (12:55), Jake 9th (12:57), and Eli 10th (13:08).

This week we will practice on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  There will also be no bus to the Stampede, and athletes will need to arrive at the Stuart Sports Complex at 7:00 for our co-ed race at 8:00.

Any incoming 8th grader interested in being a captain for the 2017 can fill out our new captain application which I will be handing out tomorrwo. Talent is not a prerequisite for being chosen.  Captains will be chosen on their application, behavior shown during our current season, and cross country experience.  All captains will be chosen on a tentative basis with final captains being named during the first week of our 2017 season. As always, thanks for the support! #runhxc #beelite
