Week Recap
September 2, 2018
Hello HXC Community,
What a crazy week of weather we had! After extreme heat forced us to cancel our first meet, some moderate weather was welcomed! We opened our season on Thursday against all 129 middle schools. Our team was excited to finally get in an official meet, and they didn’t disappoint! Both teams cruised to victories, and we had PR’s up and down the lineup! During the week, I was impressed by the way every athlete had a personal goal in mind. Throughout the week, I would randomly ask a runner if they had a goal time in mind and without skipping a beat, they would give me one that was appropriate to where they were at. It’s these small goals that lead to big results! Last Friday, I showed a commercial before “McFarland” titled “Unlimited You”. It’s worth a watch if you have time and can be found on youtube. We wanted to get the message across that there are NO LIMITS! We can achieve anything if we are willing put in the work. We need to keep the positive momentum rolling as we head into our Saturday Invite portion of the season. Individual and full meet results can be found on www.runhxc.com. Individual results are under the “results” tab and full meet results are under the “schedule” tab.
Coming off the Labor Day break, we will race at Simmons on Tuesday. Hopefully, our athletes are getting in some runs over the long weekend to help maintain our fitness level. Friday’s theme will be “Red, White, and Blue”. Creativity is encouraged! Saturday will be our first Invite at “Run the Plank.” Although we value the weekday meets as good measuring sticks, the Saturday Invites are what cross country is all about! They are scored across all grades and genders, so every athlete on the team is valued and counted on. Athletes are required to take the bus with the team to the invite but can leave with a guardian after. Please make every effort to have your athlete at Herget for the bus as even one athlete not showing up can negatively affect the whole team on our overall score. All athletes will need to be at Herget by 7:10 as we will depart at 7:25 sharp. I handed out info sheets last week, but let me know if you have any questions. At away meets, athletes will need to be signed out if they are leaving after their race. However, we do encourage athletes to stay and cheer on their teammates and collect any individual or team awards that may have been earned. It’s always a great experience to celebrate and be recognized with teammates at the end of a well-run Invitational! Many have inquired about spikes for races. Although, they are not required they do help. Besides Dick Pond www.firsttothefinish.com has clearance spikes as low as $9.99. This might be a cheaper option if racing spikes are something you are interested in. Finally, here is the link to preorder a “Tiger Trails” souvineer t-shirt. Again no obligation to buy. https://tigertrail.itemorder.com/ Thanks to all for the continued support! #runhxc #beelite
