Ready For The Regular Season!

Hello HXC Community!
This past week we continued the great work highlighted by our last time trial before the regular season begins. Of the 31 athletes who ran time trial #1, 29 of them improved their times on time trial #2, which is outstanding! The results of time trial #2 can be found on www.runhxc.com The last few weeks our message has been to “get out of the comfort zone” during our practices. In distance running, it can be easy to default back to a comfortable pace and not push ourselves. In order to see maximum improvement, athletes need to be constantly changing their “best effort” and challenging themselves. Our athletes have done a great job rising up to the challenge! On a daily basis, we’re seeing kids attempting to run up a group and push the limits of what they thought they were capable of. I have no doubt we will see continued improvement from our WHOLE team as the season progresses on.
This upcoming week, we have our first two meets, both of which are at home. After weeks of training and dress rehearsals, we are ready for competition! Two meets in three days isn’t ideal, but it will provide our athletes some valuable experience before our Saturday schedule begins on September 8th. At home meets, athletes are not required to sign out and can leave after their race. We do, however, encourage them to stay and cheer on their teammates if possible! Friday will be our 2nd theme day….WHITE OUT!! Athletes are encouraged to where as much white as possible on Friday! We will not practice over the Labor Day weekend, but please encourage your child to get in a few runs over the long weekend. If they can find a teammate or two close by, that’s even better. We want to maintain our conditioning and even just a few 20-30 minute shakeouts will help keep our fitness level maintained until we meet again on Tuesday.
