Hello HXC Community,
Saturday was a tough one. Coming into the week, we knew it was going to be close. We had a great week of practice and both teams were confident heading into sectionals. Both teams ran great races, and it was going to come down to the wire. As girls results were announced, we found out that we had placed 4th and just 9 points from qualifying for state. Next as the boys were announced, we found out we had placed 4th again - 10 points from qualifying the boys team to state. As most of you know, the top three teams qualify for state to finish fourth in both was a heartbreaker. A coach had commented to me that he felt bad for us as finishing fourth was the worst place to finish. At the time, I was in complete agreement; it wasn’t a good feeling. Comforting a lot of disappointed kids wasn’t what we had hoped for. However, after a day of reflection I have couldn’t disagree more. Fourth place in the toughest sectional in the state is something we should be proud of! Our kids didn’t back down and gave a great effort. Sometimes in life we learn our best lessons from our hardest defeats, and I have no doubt our kids will take valuable lessons from Saturday. I know one thing, there is no other team in the state that I’d rather be coaching than the Herget Huskies!
We also had some great news as Olivia Kunio, Tori Lopez, Dominic Serio, and Ayden Jenkins all qualified as individuals! We will be departing for state on Friday after school. Everyone is still welcome to join us in practice from 4:00-5:00 daily. I have no doubt these four will send us out with a bang! Thanks to all the parents for the continued support! You’re the best. #runhxc #beelite
