City Recap
October 6, 2019
Hello HXC Community,
Heading into “City Week”, our team was running great! We were ready to get out there and show what we could do one last time as a complete team! City is one of most important meets, and one we always look to do well at. It’s for bragging rights in the city of Aurora!
The morning of city was cool, and as the time approached 9:00 our varsity girls were up first. The girls have really made a jump in the last few weeks, and they came out and a made a significant statement that they are ready for sectionals in another week! The girls overwhelmed the field and placed all 7 girls in the top 10! This was our girl’s 9th city title in the last 10 years! Leading the way was Abbey 1st Place (11:56), Kendall 2nd place (12:01), Natalie 4th place (12:34), Baylee 5th place (12:35), Kaylynn 8th place (12:47). Kaylynn was an alternate as early as Friday morning. However, an injury forced Olivia out, and Kaylynn was given an opportunity to run on varsity. She took full advantage and ran her best race of the season! Rounding out the lineup was Isabella 9th place (12:49), and Sara 10th place (12:53)
Next up was the boys’ varsity. Going in we knew it was going to take a huge effort to defeat the meet favorites from Still. Still had beaten Geneva South a few weeks ago, and Geneva South had handed us our only defeat of the regular season. A huge effort was exactly what we got, but we fell just 8 points short of the title. Boys were led by Devyn 1st place (10:34), Ayden 2nd place (10:36), Gio 10th place (11:41), Ashton 11th place (11:47), Mason 12th place (11:47), and Nathan 13th place (11:48).
After varsity boys, the girls open was next. The open races are a great opportunity for some new athletes to get out there and earn some hardware. The opens also show off the great depth we have in HXC. Our girls’ team finished out their season in style as we placed 5 in the top 10. Girls were led by Jacci 1st place (13:32), Avery 4th place (13:57), Isabella 5th place (13:57), Amaya 7th place (14:22), Bre 8th place (14:24), Emmerson 12th place (14:46), Clodagh 16th place (15:00), Destiny 18th place (15:10), Gracie 35th place (16:20), and Taliyah 95th place (21:45).
Last up for the day was the Open Boys. The open boy’s race was definitely one of our best showings of the day as they also claimed 5 of the top 10 awards. Boys were led by Adan 1st place (11:47), Dominic 2nd place (11:50), David 6th place (12:30), Kyden 7th place (12:33), Greyson 9th place (12:37), Nicky 13th place (12:56), James 14th place (12:58), Derek 15th place (13:09), Drew 17th place (13:14), Emilio 18th place (13:19), Cameron 21st place (13:31), Nolan 26th place (14:16), Matt 58th place (15:18), Tyler 73rd place (16:17), Damien 75th place (16:20), and Gabe 101st place (17:49).
As the boys open finished up so did our regular season. It was great to see so many athletes medal and end the season with PR’s! HXC ended the day with 20 medal winners out of a possible 40 given out! As we move towards sectionals, only Varsity athletes will continue to compete. Everyone is still welcome to join us at practice if they would like. All athletes can wash their uniform and place it in a grocery bag to return to Coach Butcher in Room 2107. Please return the uniforms A.S.A.P., so we don’t have to chase them down into November!
Also, special thanks to Leslie Bryne who coordinated and all the other parents who volunteered or donated goods for the city meet. It’s great to have such a support system who is willing to help out! Looking forward to our biggest meet of the year, SECTIONALS!! #runhxc #beelite
