Troy Recap

September 22, 2019

Hello HXC Community,

Troy is always one of the highlights of the season and a great opportunity to run against some of the best athletes in the state.  It is broken down by grade and gender, meaning there are six races with team scores for each.  With over 45 schools competing, it’s a very competitive invitational and a good measuring stick to see how we are stacking up with sectionals only 3 weeks away.  After an early morning wake-up call and quieter than normal bus ride, we were ready!

First up were the sixth graders.  The sixth grade race is only 1.1 miles, which is much shorter than our typical 2 mile races. Our 6th grade girls are our smallest group but went out and competed well.  Gracie placed 161st place (9:31), and Destiny was 174th place (9:57).  Our 6th grade boys are a group that we thought could compete well, and they didn’t disappoint!  They blew away the field and scored 68 points in route to the team title!  If these boys stick together and continue to work hard, sky is the limit on to what they can achieve over the next few years.  Boy’s were led by Ashton 4th place (6:16), Mason 7th place (6:21), Nathan 8th place (6:22), Dayne 22nd place (6:44), Drew 31st place (6:58), Greyson 33rd place (6:59), Jacob 216th place (9:47), and Damien 272nd place (9:52).

Up next were the 7th graders ready to run the full 2 mile course.  The girls ran great and finished with a trophy in 4th place…..until they said we got 5th on a tiebreaker.  I’m still not sure what happened as the official results still say we finished 4th.  Regardless, the girls ran great!  We made the decision to run Abbey up a grade, and she did a great job leading the girls with a 6th place finish in (12:59).  Chasing Abbey were Natalie 17th place (13:31), Baylee 30th place (13:53), Kaylynn 42nd place (14:11), Jacci 63rd place (14:57), Avery 86th place (15:52), Isabella 110th (16:41), Clodaugh 183rd place (17:27), Bre 201st place (17:56), and Emmerson 245th place (18:33).  Boys were up next, and they all ran solid races to finish 11th as a team.  Boys were led by Caleb 19th place (12:36), Dom 64th place (13:39), Adan 65th place (13:46), Nicky 85th place (14:01), David 88th place (14:04), Derek 130th place (15:12), Ian 197th place (17:23), and James 198th (17:24)

Finally up were the 8th graders.  We only have five 8th grade girls, which means every girl was counted on to get a team score.  What we lacked in quantity we made up for in quality as the girls ended up finishing 5th in the 47 team field.  Girls were led by Olivia 9th place (12:50), Kendall 17th place (13:06), Isabella 33rd place (13:44), Sara 41st place (14:01), and Amaya 119th place (16:46).  Closing out the day were the 8th grade boys. The twins quickly went out as leaders and ran with some of the state’s best!  When the dust settled, Twin 2 (Devyn) was 4th place (11:26) and Twin 1 (Ayden) was 6th place (11:28).  Also placing for the boys was Gio 77th place (13:22), Emiliano 117th place (13:54), Cameron 170th place (15:30), Nolan 199th place (17:05), Eric 213th place (18:04), Matt 218th place (18:09), and Gabe 256th place (20:39)

This upcoming week, we will have home meets on Tuesday and again on Saturday.  Athletes will need to be at Herget at 8:15 on Saturday; girls run at 9:00.  Boys will run at approximately at 9:30.

Finally, Herget will be hosting city again this year at Lincoln Park.  Leslie Byrne (Kendall’s) mom has volunteered to head up selling concessions with the proceeds going to our program.  We are looking for items that can be donated and sold at the meet.  We are looking for bottled water, Gatorades, granola bars, breakfast bars, full sized candy bars, bananas, clementine’s, donuts, and bagged chips.  If you would like to help with donations please contact Leslie at byrnekelly2003@icloud.com.  We are also looking for volunteers to work the stand throughout the meet.  The goal is to get 2-3 people per race to work the stand, so no one would have to miss their athlete’s race.  Again, please contact Leslie if you’re able to help out.  All results from Troy are posted on www.runhxc.com.
