Herget Middle School Cross Country

City

October 4, 2021

Hello HXC Community,

Coming off a successful weekend at Conference, our team was feeling confident and ready for another good week of practice in preparation for City on Saturday.  We reminded the team that we needed to stay focused and continue to work hard as there was still improvement to be made.  In short, we wanted to keep the peddle to medal!  City is always one of the highlights of the season, and a meet in which we’ve always done well at.  In fact, our girls have won 10 out of the last 11 city meets, and our boys have won 6 out of the last ten.  With our team focused for the task at hand, we headed to city hunting for some hardware and PR’s!

Girls Varsity:  Our girls probably had their best showing of the year with all 7 girls medaling!  We closed the gap between our 3 and 4 runners and our 5,6,7 runners all gave a solid showing!  Abbey and Mia led the way, placing well ahead of field in 1st and 2nd  with identical times of (12:14) but Abb’s got Mia by .02!  Following our lead runners were Caroline 3rd place (13:26), Brooke 4th place (13:36), Sophia 5th place (14:08), Emily 7th place (14:12), and Destiny 8th place (14:25)

Boys Varsity: Our boys came out and took control right from the beginning.  In the end we had 6 of our top 7 medal! Nathan 1st place (10:40), Ben 2nd place (11:18), Mason, 3rd place (11:42), Lachlan 4th place (11:42), Greyson 6th place (11:50), Gavin 7th place (12:14), and Nate 14th place (12:56).

Girls Open:  Our girls open squad put a nice exclamation point on their season with all three girls medaling!  Mia 4th place (15:57), Nina 7th place (16:48), and Gracie 10th place (17:45).

Boys Open:  In the last race of the day, every boy on our open team put up a PR to finish their season! Finishers were Finley 1st place (12:35), Ben 3rd place (15:21), Michael 5th place (15:32), Landen 8th place (16:10), Tyler 9th place (16:12), Dominick 15th place (17:56), and Johnny 16th place (18:17)

With the finish of the boys open race so to was our regular season.  IESA regulations only allow us to run our top 7 at sectionals.  Only varsity runners and alternates will continue to practice and compete this week.  Coaches couldn’t be happier with the way our team finished on Saturday; it was an impressive performance through our whole lineup! Please have your athlete wash and return their uniform to Mr. Stancati in room 1204.  Varsity athletes will also need to wash and return their uniform as we will be handing out postseason uniforms this week.  Sectionals will be hosted at the same course as conference.  Bus at Herget will be at 7:30 with girls’ varsity racing at 9:00 and boys’ varsity racing at 10:00.

Thank you to everyone who donated to Coach Robinson!  I know he was pleasantly surprised.  We are so lucky to have such a great support system from our parents!  From getting athletes to summer camp, organizing t-shirts, team dinners, and the list goes on.  When talking to other schools, it really becomes clear how special the entire HXC family is!

Finally, we’ve had some parents inquire about where their athlete can continue to run after the season.  Although there are many clubs in the area we highly recommend the Batavia Accelerators  http://www.acceleratorsrunning.com/ . It is a come and go as you want club with no attendance requirements.  They have a racing series and the best part is it’s completely free!  It’s run by the parent of a former HXC runner, and he does an outstanding job!

Looking forward to the biggest week of the year, Sectional week!  #runhxc #beelite.
