Week 5
September 26, 2021
Hello HXC Community,
With “Championship Season” officially under way, our team took another important step this week. We had our first Saturday Invitational of the season, and our new athletes really got to experience what high level cross country is all about. With the cross-country weather in full effect we were ready to go!
Girls Varsity: Our girls’ team has come a long way since the beginning of the season. With only 11 members, we definitely don’t have the depth we’re accustomed to. Our goal as of late has been to really lower our 1-5 split and have our girls try to push through the discomfort and try to run a group up. Saturday’s race was another step in the right direction as we placed a competitive 4th in a very strong field. Our girls were led by top 10 performances by: Mia K. 2nd place (12:24), Abbey 6th place (12:45). Rounding out the top 7 was Caroline G. 17th place (13:31), Brooke F. 31st place (14:28), Sophia F. 33rd place (14:46), Emily L. 34th place (14:47), and Destiny J. 35th place (14:47).
Boys’ Varsity: Our boys’ team has been in the midst of a real special season and was taking their undefeated record into our Conference meet. We got bit by the injury bug this week, and Greyson was recovering and unable to run. With the next man up mentality his brother, Finley, was going to get his first varsity experience! We knew the race was going to be competitive, but we wanted to focus on what we can control not what we couldn’t. Our boys ran hard and place placed 2nd on a tiebreaker! We’re definitely looking forward to running against Wredling in a few weeks! As he’s done all year, Nathan led us and had one of the most exciting races I’ve ever seen. In a back and forth race Nathan placed 2nd (11:05) to one of the most talented runners in the state. I’m looking forward to watching those two race it out again at sectionals in a few weeks! Following Nathan G. was Mason A. 4th place (11:38), Ben B. 5th place (11:39), Lachlan M. 7th place (11:49), Gavin G. 23rd place (12:36), Nate M. 34th place (13:13), and Finley R. (14:45)
Girls Open: Our open squad had a great showing with our top girls placing: Sofia G. 44th place (16:46), Mia K. 45th place (16:46), and Nina R. 51st place (17:08)
Boys Open: In the final race of the day, our boys open team got to get out there and show what they could do. We had gutsy performances from, Ben H. 53rd place (15:37), Michael G. 65th place (16:15), Landon T. 79th place (17:02), Tyler B. 89th place (17:31), and Dominic D. 101st place (19:31).
This upcoming week is City Week! City is for bragging rights! If you’re involved in any sport at the middle school level than you know how important the City Championship is. We won’t take a bus to city but will all meet at Lincoln Park in Aurora. Girls Varsity will need to arrive by 8:00 AM and all other athletes by 8:30. Lincoln Park is located at 259 S. Russell Ave. (Across from Holy Angles School)
Finally, for those of you who don’t know Coach Robinson is a volunteer coach. He’s been with us since 2017 and does all his coaching out of the love of the sport. He’s an integral part of our team, and we wouldn’t be nearly as successful without him. I’m looking to collect donations from anyone who is willing and able. You can have your athlete bring cash this week or a check made out to Josh Robinson. Any level of donation is greatly appreciated! I’ll have a card for the entire team to sign regardless of donation to express our gratitude for all that he does. Thank you in advance and looking forward to “city week”. #runhxc #beelite
