Sectionals
October 9, 2022
Hello HXC Community,
Riding high from our City Championships, we began our sectional week feeling pretty good of where we were at and all that we had accomplished. Sectionals in my opinion, is the most important meet of the season because without a good race from sectionals, there would be no qualifying for state and our season would be over. We wanted to stay focused this week, so we could put ourselves in the best position to extend season for one more week. After a great week of practice and an awesome pasta party, we were ready for race day!
Girls Varsity: Our girls have been steadily improving throughout the year, culminating with last week’s city title at Lincoln Park. Heading into the day, we knew it was going to be tough as we were going to be without Allie, who has been our top runner for most of the year. The girls ran strong and gave it their all, but in the end, we finished 6th . Although the team didn’t make it, we still managed to qualify Mia 4th place (13:00) and Caroline 8th place (13:12) as individual qualifiers. Other finishers included Sofia 18th place (13:52), Maren 45th place (16:18), and Alex 51st place (17:53).
Boys Varsity: The boys came into Saturday with the lofty goal of qualifying as a team for next week’s State Meet. We wanted to control the things that we could, and with that mindset, we felt confident we would have positive results. We wanted to warm up in plenty of time, have our spikes ready, and be in a good place mentally to compete. This was going to be the first time we competed against any of these schools, so there were many unknowns. Talking with the boys at the starting line, it was clear that we were focused and ready for the task at hand. The boys quickly got out and after a quarter mile, it looked like it was going to be us and Oak Prairie battling for a sectional title. After having fallen just short to Rotolo on three occasions this fall, a close race was nothing new to us. Our boys battled the whole race, and when the points were added, we were named Sectional Champs and punched our ticket down state! Finishers were: Lachlan 2nd place (10:51), Ben 3rd place (10:56) Asher 5th place (11:20), Ethan 12th place (11:51), Gavin 13th place (11:51), Teagan 21st place (12:11) and Evan 28th place (12:36).
We will practice this week Monday-Thursday at Herget from 4:00-5:00 with a send off from Herget on Friday after school as we head to Bloomington. More information will come out on that along with a State itinerary next week. As I say every year, now is not the time to change anything. No new diets, race strategies, or breaking up with boyfriends or girlfriends the week of state! Let’s stay focused one more week and see if we can make some noise down in Bloomington next weekend! Thanks again to all the parents for putting on the pasta party and continued support! #runhxc #beelite
