Recap/Preview

Hello HXC Community!
Wow, what a week it was for our team! Coming off a long weekend and having Tuesday’s meet/practice cancelled, I was a little nervous how we would respond to the two meets later that week. However, I was not disappointed! Thursday’s meet was important as it allowed us to run on the same course where the “Tiger Trails Invite” will be in a few weeks. The kids competed well, and we won both the boys and girls races. Saturday was our first Invite of the season and was a huge success! The 6th graders set the tone in the first race with a girl’s victory and boys coming in second. Lizzie Gould, Mackenzy Hobson, and Victor Nyong all earned individual ribbons. Following them, the 7th graders put on quite a show with both boys and girls putting up perfect scores of 15! The “long grey line” was in full effect as Megan Sporny, Devon Tomas, Ella Henry, Jenna Stuck, Kailey Lundberg, Kate Ochsenschlager, and Karina Juarez led the girls while Nate Hodge, Brandon Ngsong, Brock Beatus, Aiden Hobson, and Ryan Watts led the boys. Andy Sporny and Mario Ayalya put up our biggest PR’s. Our 8th grade team only fielded 5 girls and 5 boys, so we had no room for error; everyone needed to bring their “A” game. Not only did almost everyone PR, but we won the girls and tied for first with the boys. Lauren Hasty, LoLo Walrath, and Emily Head went 1-2-3 to earn ribbons. Vince Lopez just missed a ribbon with a 4th place finish. Christina Malczyk and Jacob Roberts came up huge in the 5th spot with PR’s to help propel the team. We were the overall team champion and earned our first hardware of the season! Aside from the accomplishments, it was nice to see our runners sticking around to cheer on their teammates and runners from other schools as they finished. Every runner can relate to the pain and suffering that goes on throughout a race as well as joy that comes with hitting a new PR. It’s great to see our team getting the sportsmanship side of XC.
Coming up is a tune up meet at Traughber Middle School on Thursday and the monster Troy Invite on Saturday. For those of you who haven’t experienced Troy, it’s a whole other animal! With over 50 schools and 300 runners per race, it’s one of the biggest middle school XC invites in the nation. The bus for Troy will be at 6:45. (sorry) Friday will be our “Halloween in September” theme. The only requirement is runners have to be able to run two miles in whatever they are wearing. Practice will end at 5:00 on Friday. Results from last Thursday are on RUNHXC.com, and I’m still waiting on Run The Plank’s but will get those up as soon as I receive them. As always thanks for all the support! #runhxc #beelite
