Invite Season is Underway

Hello HXC Community,
What a week by the whole HXC squad! Saturday marked our first invitational, and we didn’t disappoint securing our second straight overall team championship by one point!! “Run The Plank” is scored by each grade and gender, so you need to have a total team effort to get the win. EVERY SINGLE PERSON who ran on Saturday played a part in helping us win the trophy. In fact, even the absence of more person at certain levels could have slipped us down to a second place finish. This just goes to show how everyone plays a role, and we should ALL celebrate in our team successes!
First off were the 6th graders: This was our 6th graders first opportunity to experience what a Saturday Invitational is all about to run against just their peers. Our 6th grade girls only had four runners, so we didn’t even have a complete team and our 5th runner score would automatically default to last place plus two points. The four girls we did have placed in the top 15 and still placed third overall as a team. Top 15 finishers were Olivia 1st place (11:54), Josslyn 8th place (14:04), Sara 10th place (14:33), and Kendall 14th place (15:28).The boys were shorthanded as well due to absences, but everyone else stepped up their game to run a bunch of PR’s; we placed 4th in a very tough competitive field. Top 15 finishers were James 9th place (13:09), and Kyle 11th place (13:28).
Next off were the 7th graders. The girls used some strong up front running to secure the victory! They were led by Tori 1st place (12:20), Kenzy 3rd place (12:47), Lizzie 4th place (12:53), Gracie 5th place (13:22), and Amanda 13th place (14:18). The boys were going to be very key in our day’s success as we knew would probably need to finish top 3 to give our team a chance. In fact, I ran with the 7th grade boys on Friday, so we could discuss our strategy of running in a pack. They executed it beautifully by running a 1-5 split of just 44 seconds! Top placers were Aryan 4th place (12:08), Quinn 8th place (12:34), Carter 10th place (12:46), Tommy 11th place (12:47), and Charles 12th place (12:52).
Finally, our 8th graders were up, and they did what they’ve been doing for three years now! They secured the top spots and overwhelmed the field with our extreme depth! The girls put up a perfect score of 15 and were led by Megan 1st place (11:24), D.T. 2nd place (11:54), Ella 3rd place (12:02), Jenna 4th place (12:06), Kate 5th place (12:17), Karina 7th place (12:21), and Katelyn 9th place (13:22).The boys collectively had their best race of the year in getting the victory and scoring a perfect score of 15. Leaders were Ryan 1st place (10:50), Nate 2nd place (10:55), Jay 3rd place (11:03), Aiden 4th place (11:20), Brandon 5th place (11:20), Ty 6th place (11:20), Brock 8th place (11:39), Nate 11th place (11:53), and Andy 13th place (12:02)
Overall, the day couldn’t have went any better! PR’s were abundant with 41, and we had 9 of the 18 ribbons handed out. I had a parent from another school come up to me and comment about how blown away she was by how enthusiastic and supportive our team was! From a coaching standpoint that was great to hear! The team is really coming together!
This upcoming week, we have a lot going on. Tuesday we are home with our last official home meet of the year. Friday’s theme will be “Halloween in September.” Athletes can dress in any costume they like as long as they can run two miles in it! After practice on Friday, some of our parents are hosting a “carb loading” party in the cafeteria from 5:20-6:00. All athletes are welcome! Saturday will be Troy. Troy is one of the biggest XC invitationals in the country with over 70 schools and 2,000 runners participating! State team trophy winners from last year will be there that include Rotolo, Minooka, and Yorkville. I handed out meet info sheets last Thursday, but the bus will be 8:30 with the first race 11:00. The schedule this year got pushed back due to scheduling conflicts in the area.
Finally, a special thank you to the Gould family for donating the new tent to our team! It looks great, and we will appreciate it for years to come! It’s an elite tent. Thanks to all for the continued support that we get! I’m convinced we have the best parents in the state! Looking forward to another great week of miles and smiles! #runhxc #beelite
