Week 2
August 19, 2018
Hello HXC Community,
The following week was a very productive one as we continued to build on our summer work as we increased our daily distance and lower our times on our speed days. Our 6th graders have done a great job putting forth a great effort! Transitioning to a new school can be tough enough and to add cross country on top is impressive! It’s a hardworking group, who are going to do big things. On Friday, we named our captains for the 2018 season. Once again, we choose our captains based on their captain applications as well as leadership qualities, they have demonstrated in the summer as well as the early portion of our season. We got some great leaders, and I’ve included a quote from them on why they want to be a captain as well as their personal goal for 2018.
Kenzy Hobson- “I want to be a leader to other people and a positive influence so they do the right thing. I’m loud and committed!” Kenzy’s goal this season is “To have 98% of my meets in the 12:00s”
Grace Weisse- “When I was in 6th grade, I had so much fun and want every 6th grader to have the same experience I did. I am very trustworthy and a good listener.” Gracie’s goal is “I want to break 13:00 and work 10x harder than last year”
Lizzie Gould- “I want to be a role model! Also, I want to lead stretches. I am caring, friendly, and nice.” Lizzie’s goal is “I want to get under a time of 12:45”.
Amanda Fraizer- “I want to help the 6th graders and show them the rules of cross country. I follow the rules, try my best, and help out other team members.” Amanda’s goal is “ I want to run under 13:00”
Tori Lopez- “I want to help people become better at running. I love to lead and inspire others.” Tori’s goal is “I would like to break 12 minutes”.
Quinn Leonard- “I want to become a better leader and help my friends achieve their goals. I am very good at encouraging people to be better.” Quinn’s goal is to “run 12:00 flat by the end of the season”.
Aryan Marwaha- “I want to help others and encourage teammates throughout the season. I have a loud voice, am respectful, and a good listener. I like to lead.” Aryan’s goal is “I would like to finish a race with a time below 11:40.”
We have some great captains, and I know they will do an “ELITE” job! This upcoming week is packed. We will have our last time trial before the season on Tuesday. Friday will be our first theme day. NEON!!! Athletes are encouraged to wear all things neon to practice. Shorts, shirts, headbands, socks, glowsticks, etc. There is no such thing as too much neon on Friday! We will also have our movie night and pizza party after practice. I handed out info sheets last week, but after practice, we will go to the cafeteria to eat and then watch “McFarland”. Cost is $3.00 and pick up is 8:00 P.M. in the front of Herget. Thanks to all the parents for encouragement and support! #runhxc #beelite
