Tiger Trails Recap
September 24, 2018
Hello HXC Community,
This past Saturday at Tiger Trails might have been collectively our best day of the season! We finally got the weather to cooperate, and our team took full advantage with great races up and down the line and plenty of hardware that came home with us! Tiger Trails had 25 teams competing, and we showed out well by earning 3 team trophies, including a pair of first place trophy’s earned by our sixth graders!
I knew going into the 6th grade race that we had would be in the trophy hunt, but we would have to run to our full capabilities and need a total team effort. Our sixth grade girls started off the day by putting three girls in the top ten and five in the top twenty in route to placing first! Girls were led by Jacci 3rd place (9:57), Natalie 8th place (10:18), Kaylnn 10th place (10:20), Baylee 11th place (10:24), Avery 18th place (11:05), Isabella 35th place (11:27), and Anahi 39th place (11:32). Following the great start by our girls, the boys came out and also put 3 in the top 10 and cruised to a 1st place finish! Dominic Serio was the 6th grade individual boys champion in (9:05). Following Dom in the top ten were Aden 4th place (9:37), and David 10th place (9:57). Rounding out our top 7 were Nicky 12th place (9:58), Kyden 35th place, James 64th place (11:21), and Ian 70th place (11:30).
Our 7th grade girls kept the momentum rolling while placing third overall for a team trophy! For the 2nd straight race, we had the individual meet champion with Olivia placing first in (12:24). Isabella continued her hot streak as she placed 7th in (12:53). Rounding out our scoring was Kendall 18th place (13:55), Sara 42nd place (15:04), Gianna 54th place (15:21), and Amaya 61st place (15:35). In the boy’s race, their finish was by far the best of the day! The twins were joined by Max Rowe from Yorkville in a sprint to the finish! When the dust settled, Twin 1 (Ayden) edged out Yorkville for 1st place in (11:34). Twin 2 (Devyn) was just two seconds behind in (11:36). Finishing up our scoring was Emilio 56th place (14:10), Ben 79th place (14:53), and Kyle 88th place (15:13).
Our 8th grade girls made a huge jump on the home course Tuesday, and I was hoping that this was going to be a sign of things to come as we head down the home stretch of our season. The girls kept the momentum rolling as we placed 4th and just missed a trophy by 5 points! Girls were led by Tori 7th place (12:40), Kenzy 13th place (12:58), Lizzie 17th place (13:10), Gracie (13:34), and Amanda 48th place (14:14). The 8th grade boys finished off the day with a much better race than last Saturday for a nice bounce back week and a 9th place finish. Boys were led by Aryan 25th place (12:05), Lucas 37th place (12:25), Tommy 83rd place (14:07), Colton 86th place (14:11), and Andrew 89th place (14:15).
This upcoming week is City Week! This will be our last week as a complete team, and The City of Lights Championships is a meet that we have much pride in! Our girls have won the last 4 years in a row and 8 out the last 9! The boys have won two in a row and 3 out of the last four! EVERYONE competes in the city meet. There will be four races: girls’ varsity (top7) at 9:00, boys’ varsity (top 7) at 9:30, girls open (everyone else) at 10:00, and boys open (everyone else) at 10:30. Awards will be given to the top 10 runners in each race which will give our open runners a chance to bring home some hardware too! There will be no bus to City as we will meet at Lincoln Park (South Russell Ave. Aurora, Il 60506). Girls’ varsity will need to arrive at 8:00 and everyone else at 8:30.
Captain Applications will also be available this week. Any 7th grader interested in being a captain for the 2019 season can fill one out. Captains will be chose after Endurance Camp next summer. Finally, as we wrap up our regular season, we will have to declare our “state team” by the end of the week. Although I would like to keep everyone on the state team, IESA bylaws allow us to only to keep 10. We are allowed to bring 7 runners along with 3 alternates to sectionals. The state team is chosen based on times runners have run throughout the season. Anyone not making the state team and not in a winter sport is more than welcome to join us in practice if they would like. Also, anyone not on the state team can turn in their jersey to Coach Butcher or myself after city. Uniforms are brand new, so please get them turned in as soon as possible. As always, thanks for all the support! #runhxc #beelite.
