Week 2 in the Books
August 31, 2019
Hello HXC Community,
What a great first “full” week we had! Many of our athletes, who were in Endurance Camp, have been training since mid-June and been itching for some live competition. It was great to finally get out there on Tuesday for our first official meet of the season. Both teams did great, cruising to victories in both divisions! Full meet results can be found on www.runhxc.com. On Friday, we officially named our team captains for the 2019 season. Prospective captains filled out applications at the end of the 2018 season and have to honor certain stipulations. They had to attend Endurance camp on a regular basis, they are required to stay for the whole meet and cheer on teammates, help out with cleaning up our camps, and attend all our optional practices. After a successful summer, I’m proud to introduce our 2019 Captains:
Kendall Byrne- Kendall wanted to be a captain “to help the coaches and cheer on my teammates. I’m happy, energetic, humble, helpful and kind.” Kendall’s personal goal is to break 13:00.
Oliva Kundio- Olivia wanted to be a captain “because I want to lead athletes to be not only the best runners they can be but the best people they can be. I listen to what people say and have respect for their wishes. I also understand and love running.” Olivia’s personal goal is to get under 11:10 on the home course.
Sara Brown- Sara wanted to be a captain “so I can encourage runners to be the best they can be. I’m energetic, outgoing, positive, and encouraging.” Sara’s goal is to get into the 12:00’s.
Isabella Aguirre- Isabella wanted to be a captain “to encourage younger runners not to give up. I am encouraging, committed, and have good sportsmanship.” Isabella’s go is to get into the low 12:00s this year.
Devyn Jenkins- Devyn wanted to be a captain “so I can help lead our new 6th graders and help them improve. I have good leadership skills and I’m always willing to help.” Devyn’s personal goal is to break 11:00 on the home course.
Ayden Jenkins- Ayden wanted to be a captain “to help new athletes improve and believe in themselves. I am supportive, encouraging, motivational, and a team player.” Ayden’s personal goal is to break 11:10 for home meets.
Giovanni Garcia- Gio wanted to be a captain “because I want to push people to their limits and encourage them never to give up. I just like helping people.” Gio’s personal goal is to try and help the team qualify for state.
Emilio Ayala- Emilio wanted to be a captain “to help others reach their goals. I am hard working, determined, and I will push others to do their best.” Emilio’s goal is to break 13:00 this year.
Congratulations to all our captains, we know you’ll do great!
This upcoming week, we have a meet on Wednesday at Herget. This was changed from being at the Stuart Complex, so please note, we will be at Herget on Wednesday. Also, on Friday our theme will be “crazy socks.” All athletes are encouraged to wear their craziest socks to practice. Also, we will have our annual pizza party and movie night after practice to which I started handing out info sheets last week. This year we will watch “The Long Green Line.” This is a documentary about the 2005 Elmhurst York Dukes Cross Country team, and their quest for a record 25th state championship. After practice, we will go to the cafeteria for pizza and then to the library for our movie. Pickup will be in front of the main doors at 7:45 P.M. Cost for each athlete is $5.00. Have a great Labor Day weekend! #runhxc #beelite
