Week 3
September 9, 2019
Hello HXC,
Coming off a three day weekend and only having one practice before our meet on Wednesday, I was a little nervous on how we would perform. However, all apprehension was quickly put to rest as we had PR’s up and down the lineup on Wednesday afternoon. We had runners breaking 13:00 for the first time, runners taking 5:00 plus minutes off a PR, and even runners completing the course for the first time without walking! It was great watching teammates after the race congratulating each other on personal achievements under the umbrella of our team success! Now is point in the season where athletes need to “change your best” and start setting new goals if past ones have been achieved. I reminded the team that “the juice is worth the squeeze” and that feel of pride and satisfaction from a well-run race will always outweigh the pain and discomfort from a difficult practice. We want to keep this momentum rolling and continue to break through barriers!
Friday was a reward day with our “crazy sock day” and pizza party/movie night. After a few hard weeks of practice and meets, it was nice to have a relaxed practice and have some fun. Saturday was our “6 mile Saturday” workout. This was an optional practice, but it was great to see so many athletes show up and get our longest run of the season in.
This upcoming week, we will have meets on Tuesday and Thursday at Herget. We will be seeing some new competition, so we need to stay sharp and look to improve each day. The weather looks like it will be heating back up, so athletes will need to pay extra attention to hydration. Friday’s theme will be Neon. Athletes are encouraged to wear a much neon as possible to practice, shirts, shorts, glasses, headbands, etc. Saturday we will have an optional time trial at Lincoln Park in Aurora. Lincoln Park is where the city meet is hosted and where we had our second week of Endurance Camp at. We look at Lincoln Park as our 2nd home course, and we want our athletes to know the course well before city. All finishers will receive donuts and juice afterwards. All results from last Wednesday’s meet are updated on www.runhxc.com. Looking forward to another great week! #runhxc #beelite
