Herget Middle School Cross Country

Week 3

September 5, 2022

Hello HXC Community,

This past week, we got our first taste of live competition, and our team didn’t disappoint.  After a hard workout on Monday, we opened up our season with victories for both the boys and girls against Thompson and Jewel!  On Wednesday we challenged our team to get out of their comfort zone on our long run.  In distance running, it’s easy to default to a comfortable pace when the run becomes difficult.  We want our runners to get comfortable being uncomfortable as that is where the real growth happens.  On a hot a humid day, our team responded with our top group getting in 5 miles while everyone else pressed on for a longer distance than they had previously run.  We knew this might have an effect on how we performed on Thursday, but we’re willing to sacrifice for the larger goals down the road.  Our team still ran outstanding on Thursday with the girls placing second and the boys winning against a very good Wredling team.  Friday was a well needed easy run and ice cream as a reward for putting in the work this week!  I’m still waiting on the Wredling results, but the Thompson meet can be found on www.runhxc.  Individual results under the “results” tab and full meet results under the “schedule” tab.

This upcoming we are back at it with our first home meet against Geneva South on Tuesday.  Thursday, we travel to the always tough Rotolo.  If your athlete hasn’t run this weekend, please encourage them to get out today for a 20-30 minute run.  Its so hard to make the gains, but so easy to lose them with inactivity, and we don’t want to take a step back at this point of the season.  It’s all gas and no breaks going forward!   Friday will be Hawaiian theme.  Prizes for the best outfits.  Thank you to everyone for the support at meets, its great to have such great parents!  #runhxc #beelite
