Herget Middle School Cross Country

Week 5

September 18, 2022

Hello HXC Community,

Coming into the week, we were excited about our first Invitational at the Royal Cadet.  The Royal Cadet would be a great opportunity for us to get into that “big race” mode for the Saturday Invitationals to come.  For our younger runners, it was their first chance to see what an Invitational is all about.  Our weekday meets are great, but there is definitely a little extra juice for the invitationals!  Our teams competed well with girls varsity finishing 3rd and boys varsity losing a heartbreaker to Batavia by just 3 points and finishing 2nd! With some last-minute shuffling to our schedule, we were back at it on Wednesday for a meet at home vs. the rest of middle schools within our district.  Both teams came out strong and cruised to victories.  Allie Sheldon became the fourth girl ever to break twelve minutes on our home course, and Ben Bohr set a new school record by running a 10:37!  We also had some huge home course PR’s with Ethan dropping 1:21 to run a 12:28, Luciano dropping 1:20 to run a 14:18, Tegan dropping 53 seconds to run a 11:58, Nolan dropping 53 seconds to run a 15:52, Caroline dropping 17 seconds to run a 13:41, Sofia drooping 9 seconds to run a 14:57, and Rylinn Jones finished her first two mile race on the home course with a 27:28!. This past week was particularly gratifying as it was the first week where the team really began to develop its identity.  The jokes were plentiful, and it was evident that we were really becoming a team and not just a group.

This upcoming week, we will have our last home meet on Tuesday.  This will be our last chance to post some PR’s on the home track.  Saturday is Conference, and I will pass out a meet info sheet on Tuesday.  We will also have an optional practice on Monday from 3:45-5:00 p.m.  and will meet on the basketball courts where we met during summer camp.  Thanks to everyone for the continued support and being so flexible with the last-minute schedule change!  #runhxc #beelite
