Conference

September 25, 2022

Hello HXC,

Coming into conference week, we carried a lot of momentum and confidence from the last few weeks.  Our athletes have been working hard, and it has shown through our times.  Tuesday was our last home meet, and we were excited to get one last shot to put up a fast time on our course.  However, mother nature had other ideas, and we got hit with a mid 80’s day with high humidity.  If you are a runner, then you know these are pretty tough conditions to compete in, especially on our course where there is very little air flow.  It can be a very sticky, uncomfortable run!  That being said, we competed well with our girls finishing second, and our boys finishing first.  Wednesday and Thursday we probably had our two best practices of the year with 12x400 on Wednesday, and a 5.5 mile run for group 1 on Thursday.  With the temperature finally dropping and a recovery day on Friday, we felt confident heading into conference on Saturday.

On Saturday, girls’ varsity was up first and ran well ultimately placing 4th.  Allie came out and took control of the race early on her way to a conference championship with a 12:08!  Following Allie was Mia 7th place (12:49), Caroline 22nd place (13:41), Sophia 36th place (15:03), and Maren 41st place (16:20).

Our boys’ varsity were up next and had their eyes on a Conference Championship.  They gave it their all but came up just one point short again to Rotolo.  This razor thin loss hurt but is hopefully something we can learn from.  Did we warm up properly?  Did we give it our all in practice?  Were we mentally prepared?  It doesn’t take much to make up one point, and I’m sure the boys will use this a fuel for the remainder of the season. Leading the way for the boys was Lachlan 2nd place (11:03), Ben 3rd place (11:07), Asher 5th place (11:35), Gavin 17th place (12:13), Ethan 25th place (12:39), Tegan 27th place (12:48), and Evan 28th place (13:01).

Girls open was our next race.  Our girls set goals for themselves and ran strong.  Alex lead the way with a 66th place finish in 20:03.  Following Alex was Abbi 66th place (20:20), AJ 70th place (20:26), and Ariana 71st place (20:27).

Our boys JV ran  maybe one of the best team races of the day!  We had three boys break 14 minutes and just missed fourth.  We were led by Finnley 24th place (13:41), Zach 25th place (13:48), Ben 28th place (13:51), Lucciano 31st place (14:03), Timmie 42nd place (15:38), and Nolan 43rd place (15:44).

This upcoming week is City Week!  This is one of the biggest meets of the year, and one we always look forward too.   We won’t take a bus to City, instead we will meet there as a team.  City is located at Lincoln Park in Aurora. I will have meet info sheets later in the week.  Looking forward to another great week!  #runhxc #beelite
